Big Green Egg Grill Repair & Service
Atlanta-based maker of the green ceramic kamado cooker used for grilling, smoking and baking.
About Big Green Egg
Big Green Egg makes ceramic kamado-style charcoal cookers. The thick ceramic dome and base hold heat well, so one Egg can grill hot, smoke low and slow, or bake like an oven using lump charcoal and adjustable vents. It comes in seven sizes from the Mini to the 2XL, with nests, tables and many add-ons.
The Egg sits in the premium tier for charcoal cookers. It costs more than most kamados, and buyers are often serious home cooks who want one cooker that does everything. Eggs are also commonly set into outdoor kitchen islands. The ceramics are durable, but gaskets, fire boxes and metal bands wear over time and need attention. Accessories like the ConvEGGtor and nests add to the total cost, so most buyers spend more than the price of the Egg alone.
History
Ed Fisher, a Navy veteran, opened a shop in Atlanta in 1974 selling imported Japanese clay kamado cookers. In the early 1980s he simplified the sizes and set out to make the cooker himself with better ceramics, renaming it the Big Green Egg and offering a lifetime warranty. In 1995 production moved to a ceramic factory in Monterrey, Mexico. The company began its Eggtoberfest festival in 1998 and later opened a new Atlanta-area headquarters with a culinary center. It now sells in more than 50 countries.
