Valor Fireplace Repair & Service

Canadian maker of radiant gas fireplaces, inserts and stoves that keep heating during a power outage.

About Valor

Valor is the gas fireplace brand of Miles Industries, a family-run company in the Vancouver area. Its fireplaces are built as real zone heaters: the burners push radiant heat through the glass and most models run without a fan or household power, so they keep working when the power goes out. The lineup covers zero-clearance hearth units, linear and multi-sided models, inserts for old masonry fireplaces, freestanding stoves and electric units.

Valor sits in the upper-mid to premium part of the market. Buyers tend to be homeowners who want a fireplace that actually heats a room, plus remodelers swapping a drafty wood fireplace for a gas insert. Units are sold and installed through authorized hearth dealers in Canada and the US, and the brand is a common sight in Pacific Northwest and Canadian homes.

History

Garry and Barbara Miles started Miles Industries in North Vancouver in 1977 to bring British-made Valor gas fires to Canada. The family became the exclusive Canadian distributor in 1984, and Valor brought out an early direct vent, room-sealed gas fireplace in 1986, followed by a power-vented model. A 2001 agreement let the Miles family design and build Valor products for North America themselves, and production moved from the UK to North America. In 2023 Swedish group NIBE bought 65% of Miles Industries, with the rest scheduled to change hands by 2026; sons Martin and Paul Miles kept running the business.

Questions about Valor

Who services Valor fireplaces near me?

The Pro Grill Find a Pro directory lists Pro Grill Verified companies that work on Valor gas fireplaces and inserts. Search by your ZIP code to see who covers your area.

Does a Valor fireplace work during a power outage?

Most Valor gas fireplaces and inserts are designed to keep running without household power because they don't rely on a fan to heat. Optional fans and some electronic features will not run until power is restored.

Why won't my Valor pilot stay lit?

The most common causes are a dirty pilot, a weak thermocouple or thermopile, or a gas supply issue. A technician can test the millivolt output and clean or replace the pilot parts.

Can I install a Valor insert in my old wood fireplace?

Yes, Valor makes inserts sized for many masonry and factory-built fireboxes. A dealer or installer measures the opening and runs a liner up the chimney for venting.
